Consumer Alerts

TATOC works closely with the police, the RDO, trading standards and the UK authorities to protect consumers from fraudulent activities.

Every month the site publishes a list of the companies that have been undertaking cold calling activities (listed on the homepage) and there is a master list for the year as well.

In this section, we bring to consumers' attention the companies that the police and authorities are particularly concerned about. For further information about any of these companies, if you have a consumer alert you would like TATOC to investigate and for advice if you feel you have been scammed, please contact Harry Taylor or the consumer helpline.

RCI has received reports that U.K. consumers have been cold called by an organisation calling itself “RCI Resorts” and offering “discounted” weeks for sale.

The cold caller claims to be operating out of Lutterworth and the name “Charlotte Waring” has been used.

The cold caller also leaves the number 08000 148 119 which, when called connects to an answerphone message from “Privilege Vacations”.

RCI has no connection with these cold calls or with “Privilege Vacations” and we strongly advise that RCI Members do not have any dealings with them.

Consumer Alert: Information Advice Bureau

Consumer Alert It has been brought to the attention of TATOC that owners at Macdonald Resorts are being targeted by a company called the Information Advice Bureau.

Agents for the company are contacting owners offering information and advice on timeshare and news about class actions. Owners are invited to local meetings to find out more, complete an assessment for compensation and register their intention to claim against any entity connected with the purchase of their timeshare, including any provider of credit or finance.

TATOC is very concerned that this is a tactic to entice owners to attend a sales presentation and would urge all owners to act with extreme caution if they choose to attend the presentation or accept any offer from them. TATOC also recommends that you do not give the company your original ownership documentation.

For further information on these types of presentations, please read TATOC Consumer Guides Number 15, 17, 31 and 85 which have been written by the TATOC team to assist owners if targeted by re-sales companies and bogus agencies. You can download them here.
